Instagram Reveals 3 Key Priorities for 2023

Instagram recently announced that it is shifting its focus for 2023, from video, transparency, messaging & creator monetisation which were its priorities in 2022 with a new emphasis on connection and community building.

Keep scrolling for the breakdown of CEO, Adam Mosseri's update on Instagram’s priorities in 2023 — and what we think it’ll mean for your Instagram strategy.

What are Instagram's Key Priorities for 2023?

Mosseri in the video says, "2022 was a year of a lot of up & downs... In 2023, Instagram hit the amazing milestone of 2 billion monthly active users... The core idea of bringing people together over the things that they love stays the same."

The platform has announced three key priorities for the upcoming year:

  1. Inspire people to be creative

  2. Help people discover things they love

  3. Spark connections between people

#1: Inspire Creativity

Instagram is focusing on inspiring creativity in 2023 by bringing back the fun and carefree days of using photo filters like Mayfair and Nashville & crazy frames. The platform wants users to feel free to express themselves and share their content without the pressure of having a perfect feed.

To achieve this, Instagram has introduced new features like Reels templates and music integration in feed posts. Additionally, users can expect to see more customisable editing tools for photos, Stories, and Reels throughout the year. This is a great opportunity for users to give their content a fresh and creative update.

#2: Discover New Things

According to CEO, Adam Mosseri, "We're also going to help people discover things that they love. Instagram should be a place where you discover things every time you use it."

We think this definitely points towards better discoverability tools. The platform has already been working to improve its Explore page algorithm to deliver content that users will be more interested in. Additionally, Instagram has also made it possible for users to search by keywords and hashtags to discover new accounts and posts to interact with.

In 2023, we can expect the Explore page to improve even further and serve more trending topics, relevant profiles, and content. These improvements in discoverability will help users to find new and interesting content on the platform.

#3: Spark Connections

Instagram's priorities for 2023 are aimed at differentiating the platform from other apps. They want to "spark connections between people over what they find."

To achieve this, the platform aims to encourage more discussions and collaborations among users. To support this goal, We predict plans to introduce new community-building features such as Group Profiles and Collaborative Collections.

These new features will provide brands and creators with more opportunities to connect personally with their audiences through exclusive behind-the-scenes content, inspirational boards, or AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions.

Overall, With these new initiatives, Instagram hopes to encourage more creativity, discovery, and connection on the platform.

Buckle up marketers, this year is going to be a ride!
